Pengolahan Sampah sebagai Upaya Penurunan Populasi Vektor dan Binatang Pembawa Penyakit

Garbage and garbage piles are breeding grounds and food sources for vectors (arthropods) and disease-carrying animals. Some diseases that are transmitted through vectors (arthropods) include dengue fever, malaria, and scabies, while others are transmitted through disease-carrying animals such as leptospirosis and rabies. To reduce the population of vectors (arthropods) and disease-carrying animals in settlements, their breeding sites must be eliminated. Waste processing is one of the efforts to reduce the population and prevent the transmission of diseases. The Darul Tazkiya orphanage/LKSA is a social welfare institution in Palangka Raya, which accommodates a number of children. Improving waste management skills among its residents is essential to create a clean, healthy, and free residential environment that is free from infectious diseases transmitted by vectors (arthropods) and disease-carrying animals. The training service was held in September 2024, attended by 35 students and managers. The training was conducted in three stages: planning, procurement of tools, and waste processing training. The results of the questionnaire showed that the level of awareness and behavior of waste management among partners was very high (53%). Waste management skills are crucial to ensure that people do not burn garbage or dispose of it in landfills, but instead use waste as a resource for themselves and the environment.
